‘I tried the quick-rinse technique – and here’s what happened to my hair’
Who knew reducing your shower time came with so many benefits for your hair? Beauty editor Laura Capon tells all…
I’ll be the first to admit that when it comes to showering, I’m not exactly known for being super speedy.
Unless I’ve hit snooze one too many times, I can happily spend 15 minutes or more under that shower head, leaving my conditioner to marinate my parched ends while I give a rendition of whatever Celine Dion song is currently stuck in my head.
But the truth is, the planet really would benefit if I made my morning washes a little bit quicker.
Love Beauty and Planet wants to make it easy to do this without sacrificing your hair, so they created a range of fast-rinse conditioners. I’ll admit though, when I heard about fast-rinse technology, I was initially a little skeptical. If you’re wondering what fast-rinse actually means, I’ve got you covered.
Traditional conditioners remove tangles and provide hydration thanks to their complex chemical structures. On one hand they do a great job, but this complex structure takes longer to break down and subsequently wash out of your hair. And we’ve all experienced that horrible sensation of trying to run your fingers through your hair and realizing you haven’t washed all your conditioner out…
The clever scientists at Love Beauty and Planet changed this structure by taking inspiration from safety glass (believe it or not) and – full disclosure – while I don’t fully understand how they did it, this technology means you get all those hydrating smoothing benefits, combined with a quick-rinse formula, which begins to break down on immediate contact with water.
When I applied the Love Beauty and Planet Muru Muru Butter & Rose Conditioner post-shampoo I didn’t know what to expect.
It felt and looked like a regular conditioner, but rather than waste time (and, more importantly, water) waiting for it to do it’s thing, I washed it out immediately.
After patting my hair dry with a towel (never rub, that’s what leads to unwanted frizz), I was skeptical that without my usual five-minute ‘baking’ time, getting a brush through my hair would be a job for Tom Cruise.
Thankfully, I was proved wrong. I was even more delighted after blow-drying my hair to discover that, despite a more speedy rinse, my hair was properly clean, soft and shiny with no residue at all.
We often talk about sustainable beauty routines, but it can seem pretty overwhelming. I know I’m guilty of forgetting that little things like reducing my shower time can have a big impact on the planet.
Switching to a quick-rinse conditioner has really benefited me as I have long hair that’s past my shoulders and it takes what seems like forever to rinse out.
Trying the quick-rinse method has made me more mindful of my water consumption and it’s something I’m embarrassed to admit I didn’t pay a lot of attention to before.
If you’re looking to make small, sustainable changes, this is by far the easiest one you will ever make. Think what you’ll be able to do with all that extra time you’ve saved. I’ll be listening to Celine Dion, of course.
