How to do messy hair buns for everyday styling

Trying to cover second-day hair? A messy hairstyle is a perfect solution. Tousled, messy hair buns are super easy for or a day after a night out (when you’re likely to have pretty messy hair!), and there are several ways to get them right.

A messy style looks great on any length and type of hair – short or long, straight or curly, thick and flexible or fine and wispy. Want to achieve this easy and elegant look? Read on for our guide on how to do messy hair buns for timeless chic and minimal effort!

Top tip: Before you begin any of these styles, apply some of our Murumuru Butter & Rose Dry Shampoo to the roots of your hair and rub gently with fingers. This will help add a little extra volume (and cover up the fact that you have day 2 hair!).

Step 1: Mist your hair with some of our Light Hold and Frizz Control Hair Spray – this will help to keep the bun in place.

Step 2: Flip your head upside down and gather your hair as if you are trying to create a ponytail.

Step 3: Twist your hair at the base of the ponytail into a ‘bun’ shape. Make sure to leave out the ends!

Step 4: Secure the ends of your hair with an elastic and some bobby pins for an easy messy bun.

Cute bun hairstyles: Side Buns

Want something a bit different? Why not try these cute easy buns for endless elegance!

Step 1: Sweep all your hair to one side and secure your hair in a side ponytail with a tie.

Step 2: Create a hole above the elastic, flip the ponytail up and through the hole, and pull a portion of it through the hole. Make sure to pin down the bun.

Step 3: Keep pulling out hair above the pony and pull in the remaining ends, and pin down into the bun.

Step 4: Give your hair a light spray with our Light Hold and Frizz Control Hair Spray to help hold your hairstyle.

Step 1: Use your fingers to lightly comb through your hair and then pull it into a high ponytail.

Step 2: Spray a fine-tooth comb with hairspray and gently tease the ponytail, from roots to ends. This will help to keep the bun in place.

Step 3: Wrap the teased ponytail loosely around the hair tie, creating coils until all hair is swept around the tie.

Step 4: Secure with bobby pins in the front, back, and sides.

Step 5: Tame any excessive flyaways or frizz with a drop of hair oil.

Now you know how to make a messy hair bun, you can easily cover up second-day hair and still look flawless!
